Landon Huffman Returns to Martinsville in Niece Motorsports No. 38 Plan B Sales Silverado

When the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rolls into Martinsville Speedway this weekend, it will mark Landon Huffman’s first time behind the wheel since last year’s event at the historic track. “In a lot of ways, 2018 seems like it has been the longest year ever for me,” says Huffman. “We’re down to four races to go in the season and I’m just finally getting back in a race truck.” Huffman made two starts last season, Bristol and Martinsville, both for legendary truck series owner Mike Mittler.

The long time off doesn’t mean Huffman wasn’t busy. Besides wrapping up his senior year at UNC – Charlotte, where he will soon graduate with a degree in marketing, Huffman was hustling to land a solid ride in the series. “We had so many situations that came and went,” adds the 22-year-old Huffman. “There must have been four or five scenarios that could have played out. I came so close to driving a number of times, but every time something just didn’t work to make it happen. In the end, though, I’ll be back at Martinsville in a great truck with some great people.”

Among those people is Niece Motorsports GM Cody Efaw, who will also serve as Landon’s crew chief for the #38 Plan B Sales Chevy Silverado. “Martinsville is definitely a tough track,” Efaw states. “But I think it’s something that Landon’s background will play well into. He’s done some short track racing in these trucks before, which will also help. We’ve been working hard to put together a strong piece for Landon and the 38 team. If we can keep our nose clean, I definitely think Landon can show what he’s capable of.”

“Last year we were knocking on the door of the top-10 when we about had the side of the truck ripped off,” a still irritated Huffman notes. “The damage pushed us back to a 17th-place finish, but I know we should have come home better. This year, I don’t want to leave disappointed.”

Team owner Al Niece is enthused about this weekend’s opportunity as well. “We are excited to have Landon join the team at Martinsville,” says Niece. “It’s definitely a tough track, but I think Landon’s short track experience will benefit him well there. The team has been working incredibly hard to close out the 2018 season as strong as we can.”

Huffman, known as a short track ace in Late Model action across the Carolinas, has accumulated six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins along with the 2015 Hickory Motor Speedway Paramount Kia Challenge Championship. Landon comes by his talent honestly. His Dad, Robert, was a five-time NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series Champion who also spent time in the Truck Series. “Like a lot of folks, racing’s a family tradition for us,” Landon says. “I just want to be able to continue that tradition and add some more history to it.”
